Chennai Super Kings (CSK) aren’t contenders to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 trophy? The most successful team when it comes to matches won and has the best winning percentage (of teams that have played 50+ matches) doesn’t stand a chance anymore? That’s what former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar suggests.
CSK strategy, wrong?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the IPL 2025 schedule a little while ago. During the buildup event, Manjrekar was asked how much he rates CSK. Known for his honest admissions, the former batter stated that he thinks that CSK’s strategy at the IPL 2025 auction wasn’t correct.
“CSK’s auction did not go well, and they relied on two to three players,” Manjrekar said on JioHotstar.
This makes sense. CSK continues to carry Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni, both of whom have retired from T20Is. In Dhoni’s case, they even went as far as to suggest the BCCI change the uncapped players rule so that they can retain Dhoni for no more than Rs 4 crore.

CSK no more a champion team, says Manjrekar
At the auction, they got some great players, but quite a few holes are there now. Something that didn’t happen a lot before. Dhoni is past his prime, and although the impact player rule helps them play the veteran wicketkeeper, his presence probably doesn’t strengthen the team.
“With all respect to MS Dhoni, CSK does not look like a champion team like it was,” Manjrekar added.
