When young Virat Kohli and fiery David Warner got Ricky Ponting as referee in ugly spat

India’s run-maestro Virat Kohli has been a volatile element on the field so far. The intensity, which was at its peak before and during his days as India’s skipper, has remained somewhat consistent over the years. One such early incident occurred in 2011, featuring stalwart Ricky Ponting, as India suffered a horrific 4-0 defeat at the hands of Australia.

When Ponting had to control Kohli and Warner

It was a fight with a then fiery David Warner that prompted Ricky Ponting to intervene with Virat Kohli in that fateful Test. Having already lost three Tests previously, it was a high-pressure situation fore Kohli and co during the game. Kohli and Warner had an exchange of words during the gap between the overs as the former was batting with Ishant Sharma.

Kohli was seen advancing a few steps before Ponting, who was fielding nearby, stepped in and decided to play referee between Kohli and Warner. India went on to lose that game, ending the series with a 0-4 whitewash.
