After her Round of 32 win over Anna Kalinskaya at the Brisbane International, Victoria Azarenka paid a beautiful tribute to former WTA colleague Ash Barty. Playing in her home state of Queensland, Barty, along with her son, was present earlier in the day to watch some live tennis.
Having heard about the retired Australian great’s presence in the stands earlier, two-time Grand Slam champ Azarenka gave Barty her flowers.
“I saw Ash Barty today on TV. I don’t know if she’s still here. She’s brought so much light to tennis in Australia and so much more excitement. I feel like we owe it to her to continue to improve tennis in Australia.” Victoria Azarenka said in her post-match on-court interview.
