India claims 8-wicket victory in IND vs SA 1st ODI

Gaikwad faced a challenging start in the first ODI, managing only 5 runs in his international test outside Asia. However, Indian bowlers, particularly Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan, delivered exceptional performances, restricting South Africa to a mere 116 runs. This total marked South Africa’s lowest ODI score at home.

In the chase, young debutant Sai Sudharsan made an immediate impact by hitting a boundary on the first ball he faced in ODI cricket. Gaikwad, too, contributed with a four off a free hit from pacer Wiaan Mulder. However, Gaikwad’s innings was short-lived with Mulder dismissing him in just for 5 runs in 10 balls. Despite this, Sudharsan and Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive half-centuries guided India to a convincing 8-wicket win, securing a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
