The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly dubbed Virat Kohli’s decision to retire from Tests as personal and has no plans to convince him. Last week, reports claimed that the former Indian captain had informed the board that he wishes to retire from the longest format of the game before the England series. While other reports claimed that the BCCI has asked Kohli to reconsider his decision and that a popular player has been asked to convince him, a new one claims so otherwise.
BCCI dubs Kohli’s retirement call as personal
As per Dainik Jagaran, a BCCI official claimed that the BCCI does not convince any player about their decision as it was their personal choice. This is contradictory to what another report had claimed earlier that the board had requested Kohli to reconsider his decision.
“The BCCI does not request anyone. A player’s decision is his personal choice. We don’t interfere in it,” Jagran quoted a source as saying.
Virat wants to retire from Tests
As per The Indian Express, Kohli has made up his mind on retiring from Tests and has informed the BCCI. The board and the selectors have reportedly asked him to reconsider his decision. But, Kohli is yet to do so.
“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” sources told this newspaper.
The report further hinted at Kohli’s dismal run in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy being the trigger for him to contemplate retirement. With both Rohit and Kohli gone, India will comprise of just a couple of veterans, including Jadeja, Bumrah and Rahul. However, Virat is yet to make an official announcement.
