At the start of the IPL 2024 Auction, just about every expert in the game, had predicted their choice of player who would attract the highest bid. Some said Mitchell Starc, while a few went with Travis Head. Much to the surprise of the entire cricket fraternity, it was Australia skipper Pat Cummins, who broke every IPL Auction record.
The World Cup 2023 winning captain Cummins attracted a bid of INR 20.5 Cr by SRH, to surpass Sam Curran as the most expensive player in any IPL Auction. This amount took former India opener Aakash Chopra by surprise. Not only was he expecting a lower bid for him, but also raised a pertinent question, “Can’t help but think that Bumrah is for 12Cr. Kohli 17Cr. Rohit 16Cr.
And Pat Cummins is sold…for 20.5 Cr.”
