Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC played out a thrilling Kolkata Derby at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday. Both sides looked composed and in the end, there was nothing to separate both sides as the game ended in a 2-2 draw. East Bengal had a bright start to the game, scoring in the 4th minute through Ajay Chhetri to send the East Bengal supporters into a frenzy. Nishu Kumar’s cross from the left was met by an unmarked Chhetri who made no mistake in slotting it home.
However, East Bengal’s joy was short-lived as the Mariners fought back with vigour, scoring the equaliser in the 17th minute. Armando Sadiku scored a poacher’s goal, converting a Brendan Hamill cross from the right.
East Bengal regained their lead in the second half when they were awarded a penalty. Deepak Tangri came from behind to foul Naorem Mahesh. Cleiton Silva converted the spot kick with a beautiful Panenka.
East Bengal resorted to time wasting after taking the advantage in the second half. However, they could not ensure a maiden win over their arch rivals in ISL as Dmitri Petratos helped the Mariners take a point home.
