Suryakumar Yadav extends record run to reclaim IPL 2025 Orange Cap

The Orange Cap is back with Suryakumar Yadav after the Mumbai Indians batter extended his record run of most consecutive 25+ runs in the Indian Premier League. In the MI vs GT match, SKY scored 35 off 24. While it was not a fluent knock, this was SKY’s 12th consecutive score of over 25 runs. He broke Robin Uthappa’s record in the last match. And now, he has extended his lead.

In IPL 2025, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 510 runs at an average of 63.75 and a strike rate of 170.56. He has already scored three half-centuries. In the MI vs GT match, SKY stitched together a 71-run stand with Will Jacks after two wickets fell in the first four overs. That partnership was crucial as after that, MI collapsed from 97/2 to 123/6, losing five wickets for 26 runs.

Most Consecutive Scores of 25+

Rank Player Streak (Year)
1 Suryakumar Yadav 12 (2025)*
2 Robin Uthappa 10 (2014)
3 Steven Smith 9 (2016-17)
4 B Sai Sudharsan 9 (2023-24)
5 Virat Kohli 9 (2024-25)

Suryakumar Yadav in IPL 2025

While things did not start well for Mumbai Indians this season, Suryakumar Yadav maintained consistency. His 68 off 30 balls against Chennai Super Kings stood out as he continued his scoring spree. While IPL 2025 is his best season in terms of scores since 2023, he hasn’t converted the starts.

In 2023, SKY scored a century and five half-centuries. But so far, he has only scored three fifties. However, the India T20 captain, who returned from a poor run of form in T20Is, has been consistent. That has been key for Mumbai Indians. With SKY scoring at a good rate, other batters have managed to flourish.
