Smriti Mandhana-Shafali Verma starrer India Women break 89-year-old record, score most runs in a day’s play

The India women’s team recently broke the record for the most runs scored by a team in a day’s play in Test cricket. India achieved this record in a one-off test against South Africa at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. With the help of sensational batting by Smriti Mandhana, who is currently going through a golden patch made 149 runs. And then Shafali Verma, who made the fastest double century, India were able to score 525 runs on day one.

Broke 89-year-old record

Going deeper into the stats, India not only made this huge run total in a day’s play but also broke a 89-year-old record. In 1932 in Christchurch, the total runs between New Zealand women and England women was 475 in a day’s play, which was the highest until today. New Zealand were bundled out for 44 runs, but the England women had made 431 runs with the loss of four wickets.
