Smriti Mandhana blows away Australia bowling, to smash fastest ever ODI ton by an Indian, surpasses Kohli

Saturday’s encounter between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley was a complete run-fest. After the hosts were set a daunting task of chasing down mammoth 413, the Indian team responded in style, with Smriti Mandhana scoring the fastest ever ton for an Indian, in just 50 deliveries.

This also happens to be the second-fastest ever in women’s ODIs, with Meg Lanning getting to the mark in 45 deliveries. But the most remarkable part is, her 50-ball ton is the fastest for an Indian, including men’s cricket too. The men’s record for India is held by Virat Kohli, who scored 100 in 52 balls vs Australia in Jaipur, in 2013.

Earlier in the day, Aussie batter had gone on to score her ton in 57 deliveries too, and eventually went on to score 138 in 75 balls. Meanwhile, coming back to Smriti Mandhana’s masterclass, she went to score a second consecutive 100 in the series vs Australia. Also, this is the second time she has gone on to score consecutive 100s.

Fastest 100s by Indians

Player Balls Taken Opposition Year
Smriti Mandhana 50 Australia 2025
Virat Kohli 52 Australia 2013
Virender Sehwag 60 New Zealand 2009
Virat Kohli 61 Australia 2013
Mohammad Azharuddin 62 New Zealand 1988

Her 13th ton is also the fourth against the Australians. Now, she is only behind Lanning, who has more 100s than her (15), and is tied with New Zealand’s Suzie Bates. In addition, this is her fourth century of the year, and has done this for the second time in her career. That is the most by any player in history.
