The SL vs AFG 3rd T20I ended in a controversial manner as a non no-ball call by the on-field umpire led to Sri Lanka’s defeat on Wednesday.
Chasing 210, Sri Lanka fell short by 3 runs after umpire Lyndon Hannibal didn’t give a waist-height no-ball.
Needing 19 off the final over, Kamindu Mendis hit two fours in first three balls to keep the hosts in the hunt.
The fourth delivery which seemed to have been bowled full toss over the waist was not signalled a no-ball by Hannibal.
Mendis managed to hit only a six in the next three deliveries as Sri Lanka ended up as losing side.
Netizens were not impressed with the poor call and lashed out at the officials for costing Sri Lanka the game.
Despite the loss, Sri Lanka clinched the series 2-1. The visitors posted a challenging 209, thanks to 43-ball 70 from Rahmanulla Gurbaz. Sri Lanka’s chase was dented by Patthum Nissanka’s injury. But Kamindu Mendis kept them in the hunt with an unbeaten 65. However, he could not power his side over the line as Wafadar Momand held his nerve and escaped a no-ball controversy.
Can a team take DRS for wrong wide or no-ball call?
Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis did try to take a review, but it was not allowed. Notably, DRS for non-wickets is currently limited to T20 leagues and is not available in international cricket.
