Shreyas Iyer provided an update on the injury to his index finger following the loss against DC on Saturday. PBKS’ hopes of a top-placed finish took a hit as they were handed a 6-wicket defeat by DC. Iyer, who had injured his finger previously, top-scored for the side, albeit in a losing cause.
Shreyas Iyer injury update
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Iyer revealed that his finger should be fine for the next game. PBKS will take on MI on May 26 in their final group stage fixture before moving on to IPL 2025 playoffs.
“We will look to come in with some strong plans. The finger (on injury concern) should be fine for the next game,” Shreyas said.
It was in the game against RR that Shreyas had seemingly injured his finger. Despite scoring 30 runs with the bat, Iyer did not take the field in the 2nd innings. Instead, Shashank Singh took charge of the team. Despite not being on the field, he was seen guiding his team members from the boundary line, playing an active part.
“(On not taking the field) Reason is the finger. I don’t know what happened. I have to go and check what the issue is,” Iyer had said.
Iyer on fire
Shreyas’ fine form continues in the IPL 2025 as he scored yet another half-century. His fifty on Saturday marked his 5th for this season, the most scored by him in a single edition of the tournament. Earlier, Shreyas created history by becoming the only captain to guide three different teams to IPL playoffs in the tournament’s history.
Despite his scintillating form, Shreyas was snubbed from the 18-member Test squad that was announced on Saturday. Chief selector Ajit Agakrar claimed that there was no room for Iyer in the Test squad. He added that Shreyas needed to perform more in domestic cricket.
