Shardul Thakur has dubbed the weather as the most challenging part in the upcoming five-match series against England. The all-rounder will make his return to the Test side for the first time since December 2023. Shardul is no stranger to playing in England and has tasted quite some success in the past while playing in the UK.
Weather in England is Shardul’s biggest problem
In an interview with RevSportz, Shardul reckoned that the weather could be the biggest challenge for India in the series against England. The all-rounder pointed out that there was a possibility of seeing all three weather on the same day – sunny, rainy and cold.
“I think weather is the biggest challenge in England. In one day, you can see all three weathers. It gets suddenly cold. When the sun is out it is nice and warm. And when it’s cloudy, it’s starts drizzling again,” Thakur explained.
Shardul has 10 wickets to his name and 173 runs, including three half-centuries from the games he has played in England so far.
“It could be rain affected games. Sometimes when the sun is out, the batters have the upper hand. Likewise, when the conditions are perfect – cloudy and the sun is out then the same batter is under pressure. The game keeps changing a lot,” he added.
Shardul has been out of the Test team since 2023, not managing to find his way into the side for either the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand or the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, with consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy, he has been rewarded with a spot in the side for the series against England
Thakur bagged 35 wickets in 18 innings and scored 505 runs for Mumbai. In IPL 2025, he has bagged 13 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants, coming in as a replacement player after going unsold in the auction.
