RCB IPL trophy celebration turns tragic, stampede causes multiple deaths

RCB’s IPL trophy celebration has turned into a nightmare with a stampede-like situation outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Virat Kohli and Co clinched their first IPL title in 18 years in Ahmedabad on Tuesday and arrived in their home city to great aplomb. Fans have gathered in numbers to greet their heroes, which has resulted in a number of casualties.

3 feared dead, as stampede mars RCB Trophy Celebration

As per The Hindu, a stampede occurred at the Gate No.3 of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Three people are feared dead, while another 10 suffered grave injuries. Seven deceased have been rushed to the Bowring hospital in Shivajinagar. Three others were taken to the Vaidehi Hospital. Several ambulances were seen heading in the direction of the hospital carrying injured fans. Further reports suggest a higher number of casualties, making it a nightmare situation for fans in Bengaluru.

Thousands of fans had gathered outside the stadium with the expectation of seeing their heroes celebrate a historic win. Roads in and around the ground were blocked with vehicles. The Bengaluru traffic police had trouble ensuring smooth flow and movement due to the sheer number of fans.

Bengaluru police had issued a traffic advisory ahead of the RCB celebrations at the stadium. Bengaluru traffic police advised citizens to avoid roads around the Chinnaswamy Stadium and Vidhan Soudha between 3 PM to 8 PM as the felicitation ceremony is set to take place between 5-6 PM. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah was also present at the proceedings, felicitating Virat Kohli in front of a packed crowd.

An open bus parade, planned from Chinnaswamy Stadium to Vidhan Soudha was cancelled after news of the stampede.
