Ranji Trophy performers shouldn’t be ignored, deserve India A caps for ENG tour

When the BCCI directed all players to compulsorily take part in domestic cricket, the goal was to pick a team that comprised of performers. Now, the India A tour to England is the right place to reward those who fared well in the Ranji Trophy 2024/25. India A are scheduled to play at least a couple of games, apart from an intra squad match with the main team, ahead of India’s five-match Test series against England.

Ranji performers need to be rewarded

From Yash Rathod to Danish Malewar to Harsh Dubey, multiple uncapped Indian players displayed stellar consistency with both bat and ball in Ranji Trophy. While players like Karun Nair and Shreyas Iyer are most likely to be a part of India A team, there are others who simply can’t be ignored. While it is understood that they will be out of the scheme of things in the senior team, it only makes sense if they are rewarded at least India A caps.

Player Role Runs Wickets Average
Yash Rathod Batter 960 53.33
Danish Malewar Batter 783 52.20
Karun Nair Batter 863 53.93
Harsh Dubey All-rounder 476 69 16.98 (bowling)
Auqib Nabi Bowler 44 13.93
Shams Mulani All-rounder 365 44 23.52 (bowling)

These are only some of the stars from the top five run-getters and wicket-takers in Ranji Trophy 2024/25. If groomed at the right time, these stars could potentially go on to break into the senior men’s team in the future.

Meanwhile some stars like Sai Sudharsan, Anshul Kamboj, Shardul Thakur are all but sure to be a part of the India A tour and the India-England series as well.

India A squad announcement on May 11

BCCI will, in all likelihood, announce the India ‘A’ squad for the England tour on May 11, according to RevSportz. The India A side will face the England Lions in two 4-day practice matches and then will play an intra-squad game against the main India team. India A will leave for England on May 25, four days before the practice matches begin on May 30
