One Last Dance: David Warner & Dean Elgar set for farewell Test 11,000kms apart

The New Year Test will be the last matches for David Warner and Dean Elgar who are set to hang their boots. The two greats will bid adieu to red ball cricket. Warner will play his last Test match (AUS vs PAK 3rd Test) at the SCG against Pakistan while Dean Elgar will play his last match (IND vs SA 2nd Test) at the Newlands against India.

It will be a perfect farewell for the duo should they go on and slam tons in their final Test matches of their career. Interestingly, both the sides are aiming for a whitewash in their series. While Australia has clinched the series with a 2-0, South Africa on the other hand, dominated India to win the Boxing Day Test.

Australia will find it hard to replace the destructive Southpaw who has been a threat to his opponents. “He is probably our greatest ever three-format player. He’ll be a loss.It can be hard to replace someone who is striking at 70, averaging 45, most ever runs as an Australian opener,” said Andrew McDonald.

David Warner who has been incredible form in the ongoing series will be keen to replicate his form in the AUS vs PAK 3rd Test. The perfect outing for warner will be slam a ton in the AUS vs PAK Sydney Test. Dean Elgar who slammed 185 runs in the first Test will aim to hammer a ton again in IND vs SA 2nd Test.

Though the same cannot be said about Dean Elgar, but the swashbuckling southpaw will also be a major miss for the Proteas. With over 5000 Test runs in 85 matches, Elgar boasts of having a formidable record in red ball cricket.

However, both the southpaws, the sun is setting. The New Year’s Test, i,e IND vs SA 2nd Test and AUS vs PAK 3rd Test will be their last outing in whites. It will be interesting to see how South Africa and Australia will try to make these Test matches memorial for the departing duo.
