Not Gautam Gambhir, but Hrishikesh Kanitkar to coach India A squad in England

Even as the BCCI announced the India A squad for England tour on Friday, it seemed that Gautam Gambhir would be the coach of the team. But as it turns out, former India batter Hrishikesh Kanitkar could be in-charge of the team. As per the Times of India, Gautam Gambhir won’t be coaching the India A team, who start their three-match series on May 30.

No Gautam Gambhir as Coach for India A

Although, no official announcement has come from the board as yet, but this could just turn out to be true, given a report earlier suggested, that Gambhir would leave for England on June 6, after the completion of the IPL, along with the first batch of players. Meanwhile, as per the schedule, the IND A team will play two matches vs England Lions, and then also a match against the main India squad.

As far as the India A team squad is concerned, the selectors picked opener Abhimanyu Easwaran as the skipper of the side, with Dhruv Jurel as his deputy. The biggest surprise of all was, Shreyas Iyer was not picked for the team, while Ishan Kishan was given a chance. In fact, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan were also drafted into the side, and would join after the completion of the first match.
