No military chiefs at IPL 2025 closing ceremony despite BCCI invite

The IPL 2025 final on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was meant to be a national tribute to India’s armed forces in the wake of Operation Sindoor. However, in a major development, the three service chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force are now unlikely to attend the closing ceremony, despite being officially invited by the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council.

The tribute was planned to honour the armed forces following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this month, which claimed 26 civilian lives. The BCCI had paused the IPL for ten days during this period before resuming the tournament under a revised schedule.

The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces,” the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Sportstar earlier.

He even confirmed that the BCCI has invited the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Defence Staff. However, according to NDTV reports, the chiefs won’t be turning up. “NDTV has learnt that all three service chiefs would not be present there for the game. The Board had invited the three chiefs three days back but they will not be able to make it to the game,” the report stated.
