Mumbai Indians collapse in MI vs GT clash, lose 5 wickets for just 26 runs

Gujarat Titans wrestled control in the MI vs GT with a fine bowling performance at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. Mumbai Indians looked set for a massive total with Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks looking ominous. However, Shubman Gill and Co forced a stunning collapse, with MI losing 5 wickets for 26 runs to end up with a below par score batting first.

MI slip from 97/2 to 123/7 in stunning collapse

Mumbai Indians were cruising at the Wankhede with Will Jacks making the most of his dropped chances to score a half-century. The Englishman stitched a 71-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav to put the hosts in the driver’s seat. However, Gujarat Titans forced a stunning collapse to see Mumbai Indians crumble.

Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore got the breakthrough with Suryakumar Yadav holding out to Shahrukh Khan on the boundary. Sai Sudharsan, who had dropped Jacks, this time completed the formalities as Rashid Khan struck in the next over. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma also made their way back to the pavillion in successive overs as MI saw their tall batting order shrink to a failure.

Naman Dhir was his side’s last hope, but Prasidh Krishna got the better of the all-rounder to leave MI reeling at 123/7. The hosts lost 5 wickets for 26 runs to hand the visitors the advantage.

MI at one stage looked comfortable to put more than 200 on the board, but instead had to settle for just 155 on the board. The hosts needed a late burst from Corbin Bosch to go past the 150-run mark batting first at the Wankhede. Mumbai scored 89/2 from their first 10 overs, but could only manage 66/6 in their last 10 overs.
