Most IPL centuries: KL Rahul slams 5th IPL century, moves past Subman Gill

KL Rahul has moved ahead of the pack, stuck with four centuries in the Indian Premier League. With his sublime knock in DC vs GT, IPL 2025 clash, Rahul has moved past Shubman Gill, Shane Watson and David Warner with five IPL tons. Rahul scored a 60-ball century, his first for Delhi Capitals. This was his first century since 2022 when he hit two tons for Lucknow Super Giants. With the ton, he has moved closer to Chris Gayle in the Most IPL Centuries list. He is still three tons behind Virat Kohliโ€™s record of 8 IPL tons, most by any player.

Opening the innings with Faf du Plessis, Rahul was slow off the blocks. However, after Du Plessis fell in the powerplay, he took a step back, playing the anchor role with Abhisek Porel, adding 90 runs for the 2nd wicket. After Porel was dismissed for 30, Rahul added a 45-run stand with Axar Patel, finally ending the innings with an unbroken 48-run stand with Tristan Stubbs. His unbeaten 65-ball 112-run knock helped DC post 199/3. Rahul also became the fastest Indian to score 8000 T20 runs.

Redefining IPL 2025

Despite moving up and down in the batting order, KL Rahul hasnโ€™t lost his rhythm. He has been DCโ€™s batting mainstay in IPL 2025. Rahul has opened, batted at No 3 and also at No 4, scoring runs in all positions.

While 2024 wasnโ€™t bad for Rahul with 520 runs at an average of 37.14 and a strike rate of 136.13, Rahul faced a lot of criticism for his slow starts. He even had an infamous altercation with Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka and left the team. After refusing captaincy at DC, he focused on batting and redefined his role. He has flourished so far, playing with peace of mind. Rahul has scored 493 runs at an average of 61.63 and has been DCโ€™s match-winner with a strike rate of 148.04.

โ€œKL wanted to bat at the top of the order, and heโ€™s so good to watch when in full flow. When you can see players of that quality, watch them practice and then watch them put on a show during the match is too good to see,โ€ Kevin Pietersen, DCโ€™s mentor, said at the innings break. ย

Most hundreds in T20s

With 7 centuries across T20 and T20Is, KL Rahul has equalled Abhishek Sharma. Virat Kohli also leads the charts with 9 centuries, followed by Rohit Sharma with 8. Rahul is also the first batter to hit centuries for three IPL teams (Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals).
