MI vs DC, IPL 2025: Suryakumar, Santner deliver knockout punch to Delhi Capitals, Mumbai qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs

Mumbai Indians became the fourth and final team to book their berth in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Hardik Pandya and Co knocked out Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, with a 59-run win in the MI vs DC clash at the Wankhede. Suryakumar Yadav scored a masterful 72 on a tricky surface, before the bowlers ran riot to seal a Top 4 berth.

MI vs DC: Suryakumar Yadav continues IPL 2025 form

Suryakumar Yadav had not scored less than 25 in the last 12 games, and he was once again central to Mumbai Indians’ chances. Rohit Sharma was dismissed early, while Delhi Capitals got back with the wickets of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks. Surya and Tilak Varma rebuilt the innings with a stable 50-run stand on a sluggish wicket.

Delhi Capitals were on top for most of the game, despite missing captain Axar Patel with illness. Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam kept things tight in the middle overs. Tilak was dismissed for a run-a-ball 27, while Hardik Pandya was also dismissed cheaply. Suryakumar Yadav reached his fifty, but Mumbai Indians only had 132 on the board in 18 overs.

Surya and Naman Dhir, however, turned the game on its head in the final over. Mukesh Kumar conceded 27 in the 19th, before Chameera conceded 21 in the final over. MI scored 48 in the last 2 overs to take themselves to 180, well above par on a sticky surface.

MI vs DC: Santner, MI run riot as Delhi falter in chase

Delhi Capitals needed their top order to fire but MI ensured that was not the case. Deepak Chahar got the better of his former CSK teammate Faf du Plessis, while Trent Boult sent KL Rahul packing. Will Jacks dismissed Abhishek Porel to leave Delhi 27/3 in the powerplay.

Vipraj Nigam played some counter-attacking cricket, but Mitchell Santner got him in the 8th over. Jasprit Bumrah ended all Delhi hopes with the dismissal of Tristan Stubbs. Sameer Rizvi played a fine cameo, but Santner got him and Ashutosh Sharma in the same over. The Kiwi all-rounder finished with figures of 3/10 in his four overs.

Jasprit Bumrah and the rest finished the job, skittling out the Capitals for 121. Mumbai qualified for the playoffs, with their clash against Punjab Kings to decide their final position.
