Marcus Stoinis & Josh Inglis to miss RR vs PBKS match, will join IPL 2025 before DC clash

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have caught a lucky break. All of their foreign players will be available for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Punjab had 8 overseas players in their squad. Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out due to injury, with Kyle Jamieson replacing him.

But 2 of their remaining 7 players aren’t sure to return to India after what had transpired in Dharamshala on May 8. Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis decided to seem to be sure about coming back. PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting was trying to convince Australian players to return.

Stoinis & Inglis set to return

Ponting was able to convince Mitchell Owen, Xavier Bartlett and Aaron Hardie. But Stoinis and Inglis remained apprehensive. We don’t know whether Ponting got to them, but according to PTI, both will rejoin the PBKS. They won’t face Rajasthan Royals on May 18 but will be available for the May 24 match against Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians clash on May 26 in Jaipur.

This bodes well for Punjab, who are likely to advance to the IPL 2025 Playoffs. Since Marco Jansen will have to leave by May 26, they’ll need players who can help them. While not a like-for-like replacement, Stoinis is an all-rounder as well.

As for Inglis, we still don’t know how long he’ll stay back. Cricket Australia (CA) hasn’t yet confirmed whether they’ll allow their players who have been selected for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final to stay back until June 3 or leave before playoffs.
