KKR Rating vs MI: Venkatesh Iyer burdened by price tag, Rahane struggling as batter & captain

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have lost their second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. They have been battered by the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. The procession started with Sunil Narine’s wicket in the first over. It ended with KKR getting dismissed for 116, which was chased down by MI in just 12.5 overs.

KKR Rating vs MI

Ajinkya Rahane, 3/10: After starting IPL 2025 with a half-century, Rahane has scored 26 runs in the next two matches. Returning to his home ground, the veteran batter made 11 (7). The dismissal wasn’t great, as Rahane got caught slashing a ball outside off.

Venkatesh Iyer, 1/10: The price tag of Rs 23.75 crore is weighing Venky down. He looked out of sorts throughout and got caught behind in the 6th over. So far in the IPL 2025, he’s scored 9 (16).

Ramandeep Singh, 7/10: KKR were 80/7 when Ramandeep came into the middle. The fact that 116 runs were put on board was because the lower-order batter hit 22 (12).

Angkrish Raghuvanshi, 6/10: KKR’s best batter of the day made 26 (16). The youngster continued to bat aggressively. He perhaps should have played slowly but that’s not how most up-and-coming batters play now.

Rinku Singh and Manish Pandey, 4/10: Both tried to rebuild the innings after early losses. Did well for a while but ultimately got out to debutant Ashwani Kumar. As experienced batters, perhaps both of them should have looked to bat until the 15th over and then go hard. But that’s not the brand of cricket which KKR, or rather any team, plays now.

Varun Chakaravarthy, 6/10: Was economical, just 12 runs from 3 overs. But like other bowlers, he couldn’t get the wickets KKR needed.

Harshit Rana, 1/10: The worst bowler of the day for KKR. Gave 28 runs from 2 overs. Bowled a great ball to Rohit Sharma, but other than that, very ordinary bowling.

Quinton de Kock, 1/10: Couldn’t his golden touch from the last. Departed in the 2nd over, scoring 1 (3).

Sunil Narine, 1/10: Departed for a 2-ball duck and was hit for 32 runs in 3 overs. Given how well Chakaravarthy bowled, you’d expect Narine to do well. But that wasn’t the case.

Andre Russell, 5/10: Went for 35 runs in 2.5 overs but got the only 2 wickets that KKR ended up taking. On a spicy surface, he couldn’t get going with the bat.

Spencer Johnson, 3/10: The pitch was doing all kinds of tricks, but the left-arm pacer couldn’t get KKR a wicket. The only good thing is he didn’t get hit. 14 runs from 2 overs.
