Kishore Jena, Mirabai Chanu & others to train abroad for Paris 2024

With the Paris 2024 Olympics in sight, 2020 silver-medalist Mirabai Chanu, and Asian Games medalist Kishore Jena will travel abroad for special training stints. The weightlifter, Chanu, who has been bogged down with injuries in the last year, will train at St. Louis, USA. She will undergo sessions with therapist Dr. Aaron Horschig, under the watchful eyes of chief coach Vijay Sharma.

Chanu missed out on a medal at the Asian Games, where she suffered an injury as well, and did not look at her best at all. The Indian will also be eyeing the Olympic Qualification Ranking (OQR) points at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in February, that could come in handy for Paris 2024 qualification.

On the other hand, Jena, who nearly beat Neeraj Chopra at the Asiad, will train at Gold Coast, Australia. “MYAS, under its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), will fund Jena, his coach and physiotherapist’s airfare, boarding and lodging expenditures, along with the cost for availing training and massage facilities, medical and local travel expenses and Medical Insurance costs among other expenditures,” a press release from the ministry stated.
