‘It’s up to captain’ Hafeez throws Shan Masood under bus after questionable decision at SCG

After a whitewash in the AUS vs PAK Test series, Pakistan cricket team coach Mohammad Hafeez has denied any involvement of his in not bowling Aamer Jamal earlier in the 4th inning. Although Australia needed just 130 runs to win the series 3-0, it was shocking to see Shan Masood holding Jamal back. Eventually, the fast bowler came in to bowl in the 20th over of the inning.

In the post-match press conference, Mohammad Hafeez stated that he and the management felt that Jamal should bowl earlier but that it was skipper Shan Masood who decided to hold the fast bowler back.

“It’s up to the captain,” Hafeez said.

On what was the reasoning behind not bowling their best bowler, Hafeez said:

“All bowlers were available, but it’s the captain’s tactic. We wanted to bowl more from the offspinner because this track can offer a lot from the far end, but the rest is up to [Masood]. Tactically, I think Jamal should have bowled earlier, but inside the field, the captain is the best judge, so you have to back that up.”
