IPL 2025 over for SRH, but absence of Pat Cummins would further push them in the ditch

There is no clarity if the Aussie players would return for the remainder of IPL 2025, when it resumes on May 17, and that could be the knockout punch for already battered SRH team. Pat Cummins, the skipper of the side, might just opt out of the tournament — given the fear the players had to go through during the military escalation between India and Pakistan, and also the upcoming WTC Final from June 11.

What if Pat Cummins & Travis Head Don’t Come Back for IPL 2025?

So, what do we know so far about the entire situation? The CA on Tuesday announced, that it was leaving the decision of returning to India, on the players only. So, SRH or the BCCI won’t be able to push the player to be back, who has led them in 27 matches, winning 12. What that could mean for the team is, not only will they miss a stellar leader, but also their main pacer, who had picked 13 wickets in 11 matches so far.

Just One Option to Fall Back on For SRH

On the other hand, for all you know, even Travis Head might opt to stay away from the rest of IPL 2025. He too is in the WTC final squad, and might want to preserve himself. That certainly would leave a huge void in the team for SRH, who still have three matches to go, and end their IPL 2025 campaign on May 25 only.

Then what are the options for SRH now? Well, clearly the team would lean on Heinrich Klaasen; Abhishek Sharma could be the dark horse. Although SA is in the WTC final too, but then Klaasen has not played Tests since 2023. Now, it is just the question of him coming back for the remainder of the league.
