Indian cricket in safe hands: Yuvraj Singh elated as Prakhar Chaturvedi breaks 24-year-old record

It took 24 years for someone to surpass a record that made it to the MS Dhoni biopic. An 18-year-old Yuvraj Singh smashed 358 runs against Bihar in Cooch Behar Trophy. 24 years on, Karnataka’s Prakhar Chaturvedi has broken the record, smashing unbeaten 404 against Mumbai in the final. And the previous record holder can’t be happier.

Yuvraj Singh tweeted: Glad to see Indian cricket in safe hands.

Fast forward to the 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy Final, Mumbai posted 380 and Prakhar Chaturvedi alone scored an unbeaten 404 off 638 balls as Karnataka scored 890/8.

Who is Prakhar Chaturvedi?

Son of an IIT graduate father and a DRDO official mother, Prakhar Chaturvedi travelled from Ghazipur, UP to Bengaluru. In Bengaluru, Prakhar enrolled in SIX Cricket Academy. And there, he began to flourish.

“He struggled to make the state U-19 team, faced doubts, but never gave up. Today, he silenced all critics with his bat,” Prakahr’s coach K Jeshwant told Indian Express. He has witnessed Prakhar’s grit for six years and was certain about his special talent.

However, for Prakhar Chaturvedi, the journey has only begun. He is already in the limelight for his record-breaking effort. But it’s only a stepping stone and the journey will only get difficult.
