Team India all-rounder Axar Patel failed to deliver with the bat after being promoted to the number five position ahead of Shreyas Iyer in the 2nd innings of IND vs ENG 1st Test. Axar fell to Tom Hartley in the fourth delivery after the tea break. A caught and bowled by the England spinner brought an end to Patel’s (17) innings.
IND vs ENG: Axar Patel flops at no. 5
Chasing 231 runs to win the 1st Test at Hyderabad, India expected Axar Patel to go all guns blazing, along with KL Rahul. However, the all-rounder managed to last for just 42 deliveries before walking back to the pavilion. The hosts would have certainly expected him to fare well, given that he was sent above Shreyas Iyer to bat in the game.

The spinner first got rid of openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shubman Gill had yet another failure as he was dismissed for a duck. Axar Patel was the next to go while Root joined the party and trapped KL Rahul for an LBW.
