IND vs BAN: Uday Saharan and Co. had a perfect start to their U19 World Cup campaign as they defeated Bangladesh by a huge margin of 84 runs in their tournament opener on January 20 (Saturday). Skipper Uday Saharan led from the front as he completed a fine fifty to help India post a respectable total on the board and defend it later on in the match.
Chasing 252 to win, Bangladesh got off to a decent start. However, the Indian bowlers made an excellent comeback to bundle out Bangladesh for just 167 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Saumy Pandey was pick of the bowlers for the Men in Blue as he scalped a four-wicket haul.
Earlier, Uday Saharan and Co. were asked to bat first and they lost Arshin Kulkarni (7) early in the innings. It was a short stay for Musheer Khan (3) as well. Adarsh Singh was joined by Uday Saharan and both led the recovery work. They kept ticking the scoreboard in the middle overs and kept Bangladesh at bay. Both Adarsh and Saharan brought up their respective fifties. They put 116 between them for the third wicket before Adarsh fell on 76 in the 32nd over.
Saharan was joined by Priyanshu Moliya. Bangladesh bowled well and the run rate dipped. Saharan tried to break free and fell on 94-ball 64. Aravelly Avanish looked good for his 23 before departing while trying to up the ante. Moliya’s scratchy knock of 42-ball 23 came to an end in the 47th over. Sachin Dhas played a good knock of 26* to power his side to 251/7. Maruf Mridha starred with the ball for Bangladesh. He picked up a fifer, conceding 43 runs in his eight overs.
