Gus Atkinson out of WI ODIs ahead of India vs England Tests
A hamstring injury has ruled out Gus Atkinson out of the 3 ODIs against the West Indies starting May 29. The 27-year-old suffered a injury in the recent England vs Zimbabwe Test. As per BBC, Atkinson however is in line to be fit for the India vs England Test series starting on June 20.
“He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team,” an ECB spokesperson told ESPNCricinfo.
Atkinson’s injury however adds to England’s woes. The Three Lions have already lost Jofra Archer to injury. Archer played for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 but did not return after the league’s suspension. Luke Wood replaced him in the ODI squad. However no replacement for Atkinson would be named.
Ben Stokes has a list of pacers racing against time to be fit for the India vs England series. Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse missed out against Zimbabwe, but recently featured in the County Championships. Woakes is named in the England Lions squad to face India A starting June 6.
