Mumbai Indians had their lucky stars to thank on Tuesday during their clash against the Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede. The Shubman Gill-led side had a poor day in the field, with as many as three catches dropped inside the powerplay itself. While the visitors got rid of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma early, Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav piled on the misery in the MI vs GT game.
Jacks, Surya ride their luck as Gujarat Titans slip up
Mumbai Indians rode their luck at the Wankhede against the Gujarat Titans. In the very first over, Sai Sudharsan dropped Will Jacks at cover. Sudharsan had gobbled up Ryan Rickleton’s catch off the second ball of the MI vs GT game. However, Jacks hit the ball harder, with the GT opener spilling a rather straightforward catch.
Suryakumar Yadav was also the recipient of GT’s kindness in the 5th over. The IPL 2025 Orange Cap holder tried to flick Prasidh Krishna over mid-wicket. However, Sai Kishore was caught napping and eventually made a mess of it. In the very next over, Jacks received another life, with Mohammed Siraj dropping him at mid wicket.
Shubman Gill was rather miffed with his side’s display in the field. Head coach Ashish Nehra had his face in his palms, disappointed at his team’s show. Jacks, who would have been out for a duck, piled on a 50+ partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, who should have also been dismissed. GT could have had Mumbai Indians down by 4 wickets in the powerplay, but instead the hosts ended the phase at a position of strength with 56/2.
