Royal Challengers Bangalore Women on Sunday achieved in two years what the RCB men couldn’t achieve in 15 years: Win a trophy! RCB Women outplayed last year’s finalist Delhi Capitals Women to bring home their first trophy. The start wasn’t ideal for RCB as Meg Lanning’s team won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Lanning and Shafali Verma gave DC an electrifying start as RCB failed to stem the flow of runs in the early period. However, once Sophie Molineux got rid of Shafali Verma, the tide started turning. Molineux took three wickets in four balls to push the DC firmly on the backfoot. DC couldn’t recover from the setback and finished with just 113 runs on the board.
Chasing 114, Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine got RCB off to a good start. Both scored over 30 runs to push RCB halfway to the title. Once the openers got out, Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh maintained composure to push RCB over the line.
