Focus on batting as Shardul Thakur gets extensive time in Cape Town nets

In what comes as a good news for Team India, all-rounder Shardul Thakur has recovered from the shoulder blow that he sustained during team practice in Centurion on Saturday.

In Team India’s optional training session on Monday, Thakur was seen having an extended net session strictly as a batter.

The 32-year-old, who had a disappointing outing both with bat and ball in Boxing Day Test in Centurion, tackled the short balls in nets.

Shardul’s long batting session in nets give an indication that the all-rounder is likely to keep his place for the IND vs SA 2nd Test, starting on January 3 in Cape Town.

With Ravindra Jadeja set to return in Playing XI for the New Year Test, there were doubts over Shardul’s place. However, it is now likely that India will bench Ravichandran Ashwin to make way for Jadeja at Newlands.
