As per Times of India, Pragyan is likely to become a national selector from the South Zone. The former Indian cricketer will replace S Sharath, who has nearly completed four years as a selector. Additionally, the report states that Sharath is likely to chief selector of the junior selection committee once again, a post than he held before 2023. Further, the BCCI is expected to post an advertisement inviting applications for the role of a selector on Friday.

Earlier, a report confirmed that chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s tenure had been extended till June 2026. The same report also claimed that the BCCI will invite fresh applications in the near future. It also stated that the board was happy with the current batch of selectors and was likely to make just one change – replacing S Sharath with a new face.

The BCCI will be calling for fresh applications going ahead. However, it is unclear whether the board will retain Das and Banerjee. The board is reportedly pleased with the current bunch and only one potential change could be made to the panel,” the report stated.

Since taking over in July 2023, Agarkar has done exceptionally well. During his tenure, Team India has won the T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue also reached the final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
