England eye Tim Southee as bowling consultant ahead of India Tests, Ashes

England cricket team is reportedly considering roping in former New Zealand cricketer Tim Southee as bowling consultant. The team is looking for an addition to their support staff ahead of the five-match Test series against India in June and the Ashes later in the year. Currently, England have two Kiwi nationals as a part of their coaching staff – McCullum as head coach and Jeetan Patel as his assitant.

Southee to join Engalnd?

As per the BBC, England are keen to rope in Southee as Anderson’s replacement. The former England pacer was the team’s fast-bowling consultant after his retirement. However, he will not be able to fulfill his responsibilities this time as he has domestic commitments with Lancashire.

Southee retired from international cricket in 2024. He has 391 wickets to his name from 107 Tests and is one of New Zealand’s most decorated bowlers.

England’s summer will commence with a one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May. That will be followed by India A’s tour to the UK. The senior Indian team will then take on England in a five-match Test series that will commence in June.

Later in the year, Ben Stokes and co. will lock horns with arch-rivals Australia in the Ashes.

England’s current coaching setup

  1. Head coach – Brendon McCullum
  2. Assistant coach – Jeetan Patel, Marcus Trescothic, Paul Collingwood
  3. Fast-bowling consultant – James Anderson
  4. Managing Director – Rob Key
