So, a few days after the BCCI named the India A squad for the England tour, the ECB has come up with the England Lions squad as well, for the two-match series. The board named a 14-member squad with Somerset’s James Rew as the skipper. The team also includes some of the international stars like Rehan Ahmed, and Chris Woakes as well.
Rocky Flintoff in England Lions Squad vs India A
Interestingly, the side also has Andrew Flintoff’s son, Rocky, who is just 17-year-old. He is relatively new in the domestic setup in England, but is seen as a bright prospect. Although he has just scored 137 runs in five matches, at an average of 15.22. On the other hand, Woakes is coming back after an ankle injury.
Also, Ben Stokes could be given a go in the series as well, but nothing is decided as yet. He is coming into action after almost six month, after he suffered a hamstring injury against New Zealand, last December. It remains to be seen how he performs against Zimbabwe. “It was a discussion we had, and it will just be how I feel at the end of this.”
Call on Ben Stokes Soon
Stokes said, “if I feel like I need any more game-time before we head into India. I can’t really say how that’s going to go at the moment because I’ve not played yet, but I’ll see how I get through. Bowling in a game is completely different to bowling and training, but that’ll probably be a late decision depending on how I feel I get through this Test match.”
ECB Performance Director for Men’s Cricket, Ed Barney, said: “This series against a strong India A side is a huge opportunity for an exciting and highly talented group of players. It will provide an opportunity both individually and collectively to excel on the international stage as we continue to succession plan for England’s future needs.”
