Former Indian fast bowler and Yuvraj Singh’s first coach, Yograj Singh, thinks that the root cause behind so many bowlers getting injured these days is the gym. He cited Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya as examples. Yograj added that players in the past didn’t get injured as often as nowadays and doesn’t understand why anyone younger than 35 goes to the gym.

Suryakumar Yadav to undergo surgery

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will undergo surgery in England and may be out of action for a few months. Surya has suffered a sports hernia on his right side and will undergo medical treatment. Surya underwent a similar operation in Germany last year and might miss the India vs Bangladesh series scheduled in August.

Why Bumrah denied Test captaincy

Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that he’d told the BCCI that he doesn’t want a leadership role in Test cricket. The fast bowler had informed the board that he may not be able to play more than 3 Tests and since he can’t play all the games in England, he doesn’t want a leadership role.

The series was named the Pataudi Trophy in 2007 but the ECB has decided to change its name. The Pataudi Medal for Excellence will be awarded to the winning captain at the end of the series to honour Pataudi.

Headingley chief curator Richard Robinson has provided an update regarding how the pitch for the India vs England 1st Test might play. Robinson wants to prepare a balanced pitch but admits the weather in England this year could mean that batters have a better time than bowlers, especially in the second and third innings.
