DRS, June 12: PSL vs IPL again, BCCI could’ve stopped Kohli Test retirement & Shreyas Iyer wronged?

The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa has finally begun, with pacers ruling the roost on Day 1. South Africa thought they had the Aussies covered but fifties from Steve Smith and Beau Webster took them past 200. Then, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood backed it up as they have forced a top-order collapse for the Proteas. Elsewhere, major developments kept coming in, including a showdown between PSL and IPL once again. Also, Sourav Ganguly had some suggestions for the Shubman Gill-led India touring England for five Tests.

BCCI should’ve made Kohli India Test captain?

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri feels that BCCI could have handled Virat Kohli’s retirement better. He suggests that one way they could have made sure Kohli continued to play Test cricket and travel to England was by naming him India’s Test captain after the Australia series.

PSL vs IPL due to T20 World Cup

PSL 2026 might clash with IPL 2026, just like it happened this year. The Champions Trophy was the reason behind the two major franchise tournaments clashing in 2025, and the T20 World Cup 2026 might play a factor next year. PSL owners weren’t pleased with the clash this year, and that won’t change.

Shreyas Iyer deserved Test spot

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Shreyas Iyer deserved to be named in India’s Test squad for England. He mentioned how well Shreyas performed in the domestic circuit in the last 12 months, in the Champions Trophy and the IPL. He’s also addressed his short ball weakness. Yet, Shreyas wasn’t selected.

How Gill should manage Bumrah

Shubman Gill shouldn’t allow Jasprit Bumrah to bowl more than 12 or 13 overs in a day during the India vs England Test series. This is Ganguly’s advice to India’s Test captain. He wants other bowlers to step up and take the load off Bumrah’s back.

No place for Sudharsan in 1st Test

It seems like India’s top six for the first Test match against England is set. And it’ll be Sai Sudharsan and Abhimanyu Easwaran who won’t make the cut. Currently practicing in Beckenham, it looks like Karun Nair will bat at number three or four and Dhruv Jurel will slot in at five or six.

How Pant should bat in IND vs ENG Tests

Now that Rishabh Pant has been named India’s Test vice-captain, he needs to show more responsibility. Ganguly thinks that Pant shouldn’t adopt the same approach he did in Australia, where he was just blindly swinging his bat and didn’t want to play the conditions.
