Dean Elgar forced to retire? South Africa coach planned to snub ace batter for IND vs SA Test series

South Africa Cricket star Dean Elgar bid adieu to red ball cricket in the recently concluded IND vs SA Test series. However as per reports, South Africa coach Shukri Conrad didn’t want to keep Elgar for the series. Reports further claim, that Elgar made a deal with Conrad to play the series and retire from red-ball cricket.

Dean Elgar wanted to play the final Test series in front of his home fans. In the Boxing Day Test he slammed the Indian bowlers as he went on to pile a massive score of 185 runs. He however failed to replicate his form in Cape Town Test as he hung his boots in front of the Proteas crowd.

As per Rapport Newspaper, Dean Elgar was not in CSA’s plans to feature in the Test series against India. On the other hand, he made a deal with Conrad to retire in front of his home fans.

Not just playing the final Test series, he even captained his side in the series. Temba Bavuma got injured on Day 1 of the first Test and Elgar took over the captaincy duties and carried it till the next match as Bavuma continued to be absent.

Naturally Dean Elgar has felt that he has been treated poorly by the coach. Reports claim that some senior South African cricketers wished Elgar to reconsider his decision after the Cape Town Test. Elgar recently signed for Essex on a three year deal.
