The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a blessing in disguise when they roped in Dewald Brevis as a replacement player for Gurjapneet Singh, who got injured during the IPL 2025. The move has reaped CSK major rewards. While the franchise finished with the wooden spoon for the first time in their 16-year history, Brevis was the shining light in their dull season.
The Dewald Brevis show for CSK
The ‘Baby AB’, despite playing just six innings, ended up as the highest run-getter amongst overseas batters for CSK. He hammered 225 runs at an incredible strike rate of 180.0. On Sunday, Brevis recorded his highest IPL score when he bludgeoned a scathing attack on the Gujarat Titans’ (GT) bowlers.
Brevis hit GT bowlers for fun as he smashed four boundaries and a whopping five sixes in his 23-ball stay. That basically means a boundary after every 2.5 balls. The South African talent made 57, which took CSK to 230/5, their highest total this season. While it was extraordinary what Brevis did in the match, something interesting caught attention after the match as well.

In a video that has gone viral, Brevis was seen hitting a colossal 114-metre six. During a six-hitting competition named the Angel One Super Sixes Challenge at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Brevis startled everyone with a huge whack down the ground. Against the bowling machine, Brevis stepped out and sent one straight down the sightscreen. The six-hitting competition was terrific from a fan’s perspective as well, only for the ones who stayed after all the formality was over.
The challenge was also a callback to the earlier IPL editions, where both players and franchise owners used to participate in such fun six-hitting challenges. As Brevis’ 114-m strike proved to be the longest six, he won a cash prize of Rs 2 lac.
