CSK’s new captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is performing exceptionally well this season. However, there is one duty where he consistently failing to date, and that is the toss. It seems like he is not as lucky as CSK’s former skipper, MS Dhoni, was at the toss.
When Dhoni was captain of the Chennai Super Kings, he held the record for the highest toss-winning percentage of 60.38%. In 212 matches as IPL captain, he won 128 and lost just 82, which is impressive. Whereas the fresh captain of CSK is struggling in the coin game in IPL 2024, he has lost eight tosses and won just one.

In a recent interview with Star Sports, Gaikwad said, “Dhoni bhai told me, ‘You can’t control the toss, but you have to win it, so practice it.’ Since then, we have been practicing coin tosses in the dugout.” Although it seems that MS’s advice hasn’t yet made a big impact on Gaikwad’s toss performance, it will be interesting to see if he improves his toss record in the upcoming crucial matches.
