Chakravarthy fined, handed one demerit point for IPL Code of Conduct breach

Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been fined after being found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The star was in action in the KKR vs CSK game on Wednesday, managing to take 2 wickets. CSK ended their 7-match losing streak by handing KKR a 2-wicket defeat, denting their chances of making it to the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Chakravarthy penalized

As per a press release, Varun was found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct and admitted to the Level 1 offence. He has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and has been handed one demerit point. Chakravarthy bowled an outstanding spell of 2/18 from his 4 overs, albeit in a losing cause.

Varun Chakaravarthy admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the release read.

What happened in KKR vs CSK match?

 With 8 needing off the final over, MS Dhoni hit a six as CSK chased down 180 with two balls to spare. However, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube laid the platform for the chase. Despite losing five wickets in the powerplay as both openers departed for ducks, Urvil Patel smashed 11-ball 31 before Dewald Brevis hit 25-ball 52 and Shivam Dube scored 40-ball 45. Their 67-run made the difference.

Earlier, despite starting a bit slowly, the Ajinkya Rahane-led KKR somehow managed to score 179. There were contributions from all batters, as Sunil Narine scored 26 from 17, followed by 48 from 33 by Rahane, and 38 from 21 by Andre Russell.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first. Manish Pandey came in for KKR with Venkatesh Iyer missing out with an injury. CSK handed a debut to Urvil Patel and Devon Conway returned.
