Even though the IPL 2025 is resuming on May 17, it seems the BCCI is yet to take a call if it wants to continue with the DJ and cheerleaders, in the remainder of the matches. This has happened after Sunil Gavaskar urged the board to cut down on these things, as per a report in India Today.
BCCI to Work on Sunil Gavaskar’s Proposal
The tournament was suspended for a few days, after the military conflict between India and Pakistan increased; with the May 8 PBKS vs DC match being halted abruptly, in Dharamsala. Earlier, Gavaskar had said, “Let the games be played. Let the crowds come in. Let’s just have the tournament – the balance of the tournament. Just no dancing girls, nothing. Just cricket would be a really nice way to respect the sentiment of the families who have lost their near and dear ones.”
Decision Could Come Soon
Meanwhile, the tournament will now start with the RCB vs KKR, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Also, the remaining matches will be played in six venues — Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Lucknow. Having said that, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will confirm the playoffs and final venue at the end of the league stages.
As per the new schedule, the league stages will end on May 27, while the playoffs will begin on May 29, and the final will be played on June 3. It is important to note that none of the teams have qualified for the last four stage, whereas, GT, MI, RCB and PBKS remain the front runners to make the cut.
