Badminton Team Asia Championships: India post tough fight but lose 3-2 to China

India’s men’s badminton team posted a great fight but failed to defeat China in the Badminton Team Asia Championships 2024. Unlike their tie with Hong Kong, India’s top-ranked singles player, HS Prannoy, gave India a smashing start. Despite losing the first game, he roared back to give India a 1-0 lead.

To test their bench strength, India played Arjun M. R. and Dhruv Kapila ahead of the world’s No. 1 men’s duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. This move backfired, as India lost their second match 21-15, 19-21, 21-19. However, Lakhsya Sen put India ahead once again with an easy win over Lei Lanxi in straight games.

Having already qualified for the quarterfinals, India decided to experiment once again and picked their second-string players to lose the remaining two matches and eventually lose their second Group A tie, 3-2.
