Australian Open: 2023 finalist Rohan Bopanna pulls out of mixed doubles

In a latest development, India’s leading tennis doubles player Rohan Bopanna & his Hungarian partner Timea Babos pulled out of the Australian Open 2024 mixed doubles event. The Bopanna-Babos team, that had made it to the finals of the Australian Open 2018, were scheduled to take on Maximo Gonzalez and Nadiia Kichenok, but opted out of the tournament at the last moment, as per a report in Olympics.com.

Bopanna. who had made the Australian Open mixed doubles final in 2023, along with Sania Mirza, is currently participating in the men’s doubles, along with Matthew Ebden. Meanwhile, the Indo-Aussie team is in the third round, and will face the Netherlands’s Wesley Koolhof and Croatia’s Nikola Mektic on Sunday.

Other Indians Perish @Australian Open

Earlier on Saturday, N Sriram Balaji lost his men’s doubles encounter with partner Victor Vlad Cornea, against Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic 6-3, 6-3, in the second round. On the other hand, Sumit Nagal too had failed to progress to the third round of the men’s singles event, after losing to China’s JC Shang.
