AUS vs WI 2nd Test: West Indies frustrate hosts as Australia struggle on Day 1

Despite Mitchell Starc’s four-wicket haul, West Indies managed to stay on top of the 1st day of the AUS vs WI 2nd Test on Thursday. A 71-run knock by Kavem Hodge coupled with Joshua Da Silva’s 79-run knock ensured that the visitors finished at 266-8 on Day 1 of the 2nd Test at the Gabba.

After losing three wickets quite quickly at the start of the innings, the two middle order batsmen helped the visitors steady themselves, scoring half-centuries each.

With Justin Graves the last Windies batter to depart, Hodge and Da Silvs have so far stitched together a 134-run partnership. Mitchell Starc has been the star of the day for the hosts, grabbing three wickets so far. Despite Australia looking confident at the start, it looks like Hodge and Da Silva are making the most of their time at the centre. WI trail the two-match Test series vs AUS 0-1 currently.
