India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was showered with love by fans and franchises as he celebrated his 38th birthday on Wednesday. Fondly referred to as “the Hitman”, the veteran has gone on to become one of the most successful Indian captains. From his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians to former cricketer Yuvraj Singh, Rohit was at the receiving end of unending praise on his birthday.
Rohit Sharma turns 38: How world celebrated the Hitman
Rohit has added two more ICC trophies to India’s cabinet within a span of 12 months. First, he led the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. He then went on to captain the Indian side that lifted the Champions Trophy earlier in March. He narrowly missed out on adding the ODI World Cup to his cabinet after India’s heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final in 2023.
Despite turning 38 years old, the Hitman has no plans of taking a step back yet. He is all but confirmed to return as the Test captain later in June when India take on England.
The Champions Trophy victory has also boosted Rohit’s confidence in terms of playing in ODIs. One can safely say that the Hitman’s next target is the 2027 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma overall captaincy record
Rohit Sharma has played 142 matches as the Indian captain. He has registered 103 victories and 33 losses. He also led the team in three draws and two no result.
