A day after SLC’s official press release, Jonty Rhodes denies being appointed as consultant coach

In a shocking turn of events, former South Africa batter Jonty Rhodes has denied being appointed as a consultant coach for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) a day after the official media press release.

On January 18, SLC made a press release, announcing the appointments of Bharat Arun, Jonty Rhodes and Alex Kountouri as consultant coaches “for the advancement of the game in the country.”

However, on Friday, Rhodes took to X to deny the news. “This is news to me #checkyourfacts,” Rhodes wrote in response to a post by The Papare Sports.

Notably, Rhodes had briefly served as a fielding coach with the Sri Lankan national team in 2015. Rhodes was appointed as the fielding coach for Sri Lanka’s home Test series against Pakistan.

The 50-year-old is currently the fielding coach for the Durban Super Giants in the SA20.
