First time a Sri Lankan helped a Bangladeshi: Pathirana shares hilarious post after superb catch in DC vs CSK

Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana grabbed headlines with a sensational catch during the recent IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, it was his post-match social media activity that truly stole the show.

Pathirana, known for his searing pace and fielding brilliance, took a blinder off the bowling of Mustafizur Rahman. The catch, a one-handed screamer at short third man, dismissed the dangerous David Warner and provided the much-needed breakthrough for CSK.

However, it was Pathirana’s Instagram story that sent fans into a frenzy. He shared a photo posted by a fan that humorously read, “First time a Sri Lankan has helped a Bangladeshi.” This cheeky reference to the on-field rivalry between the two cricketing nations sparked lighthearted banter online. Fans joined in on the bandwagon and some even suggested that Pathirana’s muted celebration was the sign that he took the catch off a Bangladeshi bowler.

Sri Lanka-Bangladesh: An entertaining and fierce rivalry

The Sri Lanka-Bangladesh rivalry has become one of the most entertaining and unexpected feuds in cricket. It all began to simmer in 2018 during the Nidahas Trophy when the “Nagin Dance” episode took place.

The 2023 World Cup match between the two nations added another layer to the rivalry during the infamous “timed out” dismissal of Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews.

The two Asian sides are currently partaking in an all-format series in Bangladesh, where there have been more than enough eye-catching instances as well.
