After a prolonged wait, Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan finally made his debut in Test cricket. Anil Kumble, the legendary cricketer, presented the 25-year-old with his inaugural Test cap during the pre-match huddle before the 3rd IND vs ENG Test in Rajkot.
Sarfaraz Khan’s father, Naushad Khan, became emotional witnessing his son’s proud moment, unable to contain his tears. Naushad was present at the Saurashtra Cricket Association in Rajkot during the cap presentation ceremony, witnessing the event up close.
Initially gaining attention for his explosive innings with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Sarfaraz truly made a mark for himself in the domestic arena and the Ranji Trophy. His remarkable record for Mumbai reflects his talent, boasting 3912 runs at an impressive average of 69.85 in 45 first-class matches.

He has registered 14 centuries and 11 half-centuries, also showcasing his abilities for India A against the England Lions. Sarfaraz’s notable performances in the unofficial Test series, including a fifty and a remarkable 161, contributed to India A’s series victory.
Following injuries to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, Sarfaraz earned his call-up to the senior team for the Vizag Test. Despite initially being overlooked in favour of Rajat Patidar, the absence of Virat Kohli and Rahul in the Rajkot match prompted the team management to finally give Sarfaraz his opportunity, putting an end to his prolonged wait.
